Nigeria: Imo State’s Governor Okorocha Recalls Workers, Stops Concession


Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has immediately recalled all suspended workers of the state’s parastatals and stopped the concessioning process.
President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabah who led the NLC in the negotiations with the government yesterday read out the agreement before the protesting workers shortly after the conclusion of negotiations.
It was agreed that the workers suspend the protests and return to work without fear of victimization. The agreement which took effect from January 2016 said government would source revenue which would be verified by the joint committee of government and labour.
Earlier, economic and social activities in Owerri, the state capital, were brought to a halt following a mass protest organized by labour. The organized labour shut down the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, all ministries and offices including the LGA and state secretariat as workers trooped out for the protest.
In his address during the protest, Comrade Ayuba Wabah demanded immediate recall of all sacked workers and stop of further sack without laid down procedures.
